The objective of GT-MAP is to make Mathematics a more effective research partner of the broader community at Georgia Tech. Through GT-MAP, Mathematicians will be better aware of exciting research carried out in other schools across Campus. The larger Campus community will be aware of the intellectual resources, strength, and diversity, that Mathematics can offer for some of the projects undertaken in other units. It will create a stable arena for the interested parties to share ideas and to hear what people are doing across Campus.
The scientific activities of GT-MAP will center around semester-long periods with a specific scientific focus, and a workshop in between semesters to act as a link between different themes. Every Fall and Spring semester, there will be one meeting per month, consisting of both seminars and discussion, and there will be one workshop per year, during the Summer.
One theme for each semester: Spring 2016, will be dedicated to the introducing some of research accross campus.
Monthly Seminar (2 hour block): On one Friday of each month during regular semesters, 3-5PM. There will be a highlighted talk (45min), a break with refreshments and informal discussion (15min), and a shorter talk of a collaborator (or graduate student or postdoc) of the speaker (20min) with more details, followed by a discussion of open problems stemming from the presentations.
Yearly Workshop: One workshop (3 days) during the summer, to bridge between and complement different themes. For the summer of 2016, our first workshop will be on Materials.
During day one and two of the workshop, distinguished speakers will give two talks: the first of tutorial nature, the second of more cutting edge research. The remaining speakers for day one and two will be given by interested researchers within Georgia Tech. Day two will be completed by a panel session on: “breaking the barriers: material, mathematics, sciences."
Introduce your research day: Day three of the workshop will be dedicated to Georgia Tech researchers, who will be invited to introduce their research. There will be a series of short talks on different research (10-15min). This talk should be on one research topic which can provoke Mathematical interest and accessible for the entire Campus community. There will be about 4-5 short talks that day.
